The Stirling Institute for People-Centred Healthcare Management
Introduction
The Stirling Institute for People-Centred Healthcare Management is a joint venture between the Department of Nursing & Midwifery and the Stirling Management School at the University of Stirling.
The Institute aims to provide a Scottish and international focal point for both research and learning activities in people-centred healthcare management. It does this by working in partnership with University departments, with the Scottish NHS, with Scottish social and welfare organisations in public, private and not – for profit sectors, with health and welfare services in the UK and around the world and with communities and groups affected by health, social and welfare issues.
Through research, consultancy, teaching, training and communication activities the Institute helps generate and share understanding of gaps between theory, policy and practice in healthcare and of how these gaps may be reduced or eliminated. It is particularly concerned with healthcare management based upon notions of public service and public provision, recognising and respecting the influence of markets yet taking a wider perspective that also seeks to learn from and through international experiences.
The Stirling Institute for People-Centred Healthcare Management is a cross disciplinary Institute bringing together clinical, corporate, economic and community perspectives for critical inquiry into organisational, managerial and community challenges of healthcare in Scotland, the UK and internationally. Proposals are welcomed on theory, policy practice gaps and their management- from public health to tertiary care, children's health to older people's health.
